Ruitertassen have been making leather goods in their own workshop since 1925, starting with the classic leather satchel for teachers. They have become known worldwide for the quality of their products by working closely with a Belgian tannery and only making goods in their own workshop, so they can be sure of the quality from beginning to end.
The leather comes from European cows, from fields with less crowding and less barbed wire. For full-grain leather, the top surface needs to be in good condition, which means taking more care of the cows. There are shortcuts in the tanning process, but they aren't used here. Tanning leather the natural way takes three weeks, but Ruitertassen think it's worth it. With three weeeks to process, the colour can be achieved with vegetable extracts including chestnut and mimosa, and it can penetrate deeply into the leather, making it much longer-lasting than a surface treatment. Not only is the result better, but nothing toxic is used, making it better for the environment.
The double pen case can fit two pens up to around 13-14mm wide at the widest point, but will be a slightly tight fit at first for pens of this width. The leather will become more supple with age and use. Suitable for pens up to around 140mm long. Note that there is no internal divider, so two pens will touch each other - not a problem for most pens, but wouldn't be suitable for carrying a knurled metal pen next to a delicate lacquer pen. This does make the double pen case suitable for carrying a single chunky or oversize pen.
Their Natural Tan colour is the result of the tanning process, with no additional colouring. The final colour comes from the action of the mimosa extracts.
